The hide is located at the border between an oak forest and pasture with bushes, close to a small town about 35 km from Varna. It is wooden and has a capacity for 2 photographers. A reflection pool of 3×5 meters attracts a variety of common birds for a drink and bathe. Various seeds and grains are fed to the birds around the hide all year round.
Photography is through a special photo (one way) glass window. The quality of the images drops down less than 5 percent by the photo-glass, compared to photography without the glass. There is no need for a tripod when you are in the hide, just a gimble head or beanbag. There is an opportunity to arrange additional branches, logs, or stones for perches.
Hide:
> Group size: maximum 2 persons.
> The hide operates all year round.
> Smoking is forbidden in the hide. If you are a smoker, you can use electronic cigarettes only.
> The hide booking is for a full day; you can enter it and leave at your own convenience. However, we highly recommend not to leave the hide when birds and/or mammals are visible close by!
> Тhe distance from the car park to the shelter is about 400 meters easy walking.
> With the booking we do not provide food or drinks. Please bring enough food and water to last you for the day.
> The hide is on open terrain and it may get cold inside it during the winter days and hot during the summer. Bring appropriate clothes and enough water with you.
> Please consider the wildlife and the environment, and behave responsibly! Do not leave any litter in or out of the hide!
Species list:
Species lists vary with the season: Hawfinch, Common Chaffinch, Syrian Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Blackbird, Jay, Great Tit, Sombre Tit, Blue Tit, European Turtle Dove, Sparrowhawk (rare), Wryneck (migration), Common Redstart, Black Redstart, Blackcap, etc.
Price for rent of the hide (per day):
40 euros per person
Upon request, transport can be provided from/to Varna and its vicinity (Golden Sands, Albena, etc.)
Recommended equipment
> We recommend the use of at least 300 mm lenses. Zoom lenses give excellent flexibility. Please make sure you bring fully charged batteries, plenty of memory cards, and a gimbal. Extenders are recommended.
Clothing
Comfort is essential to making sure you get the most out of your time in the hide therefore warm clothing is a must during the winter. We recommend thermal leggings and tops with a couple of layers on top. The walk to the hide is over a relatively flat pasture, but this can be with significant snow cover and walking boots or sturdy shoes are recommended.
