Horseriding (equestrian) holidays in Bulgaria
Since 681, when the Bulgarian state was established by Khan Asparouh and his army, the horse has always been among the greatest symbols of Bulgaria. As a flag of his kingdom the leader of the Proto-Bulgarians chose a horse’s tail. The attitude of the people towards horses has not changed through the centuries – it is still a much respected animal, especially in some remote regions, where horses are considered almost a part of the family. Ages of selection based on the needs of the people have changed the shape of the horses coming from the boundless steppes of Asia and adapted them to the varied relief of their new homeland.
